Activities therapy

If you are admitted to hospital, it may feel as if your life is turned upside down. Because you are away from home and cannot go about your daily life, you might feel a little depressed. The activities therapist will help you to focus on solutions.

Flower station

At the flower station, you can put flowers into a vase. You can buy a (disposable) vase from the vending machine at the entrance of the nursing department. Because of the risk of infection, potted plants are not allowed on wards or in patient rooms.

Hospital chapel

The spacious chapel is open all week, during the day and in the evening. You can use the chapel for a moment of rest, contemplation or prayer. The chapel organises baptism, memorial and anointing services.

Every Sunday morning at 10.00 hrs, an ecumenical church service is held. Everybody is welcome. The chapel also regularly organises concerts. You will find the chapel in Hoofddorp on the ground floor, follow route 55 red.

Hostesses and hosts

Volunteers of the Union of Volunteers (UVV) work in the hospital as hostesses or hosts. They work together with the professionals and help you wherever necessary. They take care of the flowers and reading materials, among other things. The volunteers can escort you to the outpatient clinic or nursing department you need to visit.

The hostesses and hosts are available on Mondays to Fridays from 09.00 – 12.00 hrs and from 13.00 – 16.00 hrs. The central desk at the Hoofddorp and Heemstede locations can call a volunteer for you.

Internet

If you have to stay in the hospital for more than a week, you can request an internet connection. You will receive a laptop with internet connection on loan. Ask the nurse of your nursing department for more information.

Interpreter

If you have trouble understanding Dutch, you can ask for an interpreter. This interpreter will interpret by telephone. The Patient Information desk in the entrance hall also has leaflets available in other languages.

Islamic prayer room

This prayer room for Muslims has a section for men and a section for women. The Quran is present and there is an opportunity to wash. The prayer times and direction are indicated in the room. You will find the Islamic prayer room on the ground floor, F0 purple route.

Medical social work

Illness, rehabilitation and hospitalisation can be an additional burden to you and your environment. For example, problems related to dealing with your treatment, disease or infirmity may arise in your family or at work. Your family might for example worry about the situation at home during your hospitalisation or thereafter.

Practical, emotional of financial problems might arise. If you need any help or guidance, your nurse or doctor can contact medical social work for you.

Pastoral care

Hospitalisation of a loved one can be a stressful experience. Perhaps you are worried about how to proceed, or you ask yourself why. Or perhaps you are looking for support to deal with questions about religion and your life vision, or just to tell your story. You can always appeal to the spiritual counsellors in the hospital.

All pastoral carers offer counselling, regardless of belief or religious background. Upon your request, we can contact your own neighbourhood preacher, pastor, rabbi, imam or pandit.

Patient information

In the entrance hall of the hospital in Hoofddorp you will find Patient Information. Here you will find information about health care and documentation on diseases.
